CWI TEST, CLOSED BOOK

CWI TEST, CLOSED BOOK

CWI TEST, CLOSED BOOK

(OP)
HI. I JUST FOUND THIS FORUM YESTERDAY. I WENT BACK 3 YEARS INTO IT ABOUT THE AWS CWI TEST STUFF. I GOT ALOT OF INFORMATION FROM ALL OF YOU. I AM TAKING THE SEMINAR STARTING OCT 4. TEST ON THE 11TH. HAVE BEEN STUDYING ALL THE BOOKS YOU ALL HAVE RECOMENDED, ONLY FOR THE LAST 3 WEEKS. MY QUESTIONS TO ALL OF YOU IS: WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO STUDY FOR THE CLOSED BOOK 150 QUESTION PART? & GET PAST THAT? I AM A CERTIFIED WELDER, 15 YEARS. I UNDERSTAND THE PRACTICAL PART. FOLLOW THEIR CODE, NOT THE REAL CODE OF TODAY. ANY ADVICE? I THINK THE AWS: CM2000, CERTIFICATION MANUAL WELDING INSPECTION IS THE BEST. MY ONLY PROBLEM IS THE COMPANY HAS ONLY THE 94 EDITION. WILL THAT STILL HELP? THANKS, TCSWELD, (TOM)

RE: CWI TEST, CLOSED BOOK

Turn your caps lock off!  Best way to study for closed book....read, read, read.

RE: CWI TEST, CLOSED BOOK

The best way to study and prepare for the closed book is to get hold of as many practice exams as you can.  Your course seminar will provide you with a few, but if there are any CWIs you work with or know, get with them and see if they have their old copies.

RE: CWI TEST, CLOSED BOOK

The 94 edition shouldn't be too different.  I have the old manual (at least 30 years old) that was far more comprehensive than the new edition of the manual, and the chapter end questions weren't worlds apart, and most of the information was still relevant, just not up to date on some of the newer welding and NDE processes.

RE: CWI TEST, CLOSED BOOK

TCSWELD,
You're on the right track.  If I was going to choose one book it would be the manual you have.  Do all the practice quizzes until you get them right.  You'll do fine.
