Simple pump question

Simple pump question

Simple pump question

(OP)
Hello all,
My thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.
Can anyone tell me the type(eg centrifugal, power rating(hp or kw) and approx. number of pumps found in a typical refinery. Since my field is not at all related to petroleum, I need some basic knowledge.

Regards,
Shaheryar.

RE: Simple pump question

I work in an oil refinery that is officially rated for about 300,000 barrels per day of crude charge. We have about 1950 pumps.  Of those, about 1450 are centrifugal. The remainder are positive displacement.  This count includes all pumps even tiny chemical injection pumps.  Our average HP rating of the centrifugal pumps is about 120 HP. But, the largest is 3,500 HP.  The majority of the centrifugal pumps we have are in the range from about 20 HP to about 500 HP.
