propane-butane equilibrium data

(OP)
hi all
i want to design distillation column to separate c3 from c4 but i didn't find VLE data so as to apply mcab-thiel procedure.also if there are special design equations regarding the liquified gases please hepl me.
thanks alot

RE: propane-butane equilibrium data

Refer to a professional grade simulator - preferably run by a natural gas and liquids consulting group.  Using McCabe and Thiel is a university approach and is not practical for real life situations.

thanks maddocks for your replay and I'll try to find the mentioned simulator. yes as you said, I use mccabe thiel only for acaimic purposes not actual practice.
thanks again

RE: propane-butane equilibrium data

as suggested by maddocks the simulator is just a part of the work, you need specific experience to design properly a plant, however for self-teaching purposes you may consider tools as chemsep (www.chemsep.org) which do a rigorous column design.

RE: propane-butane equilibrium data

I would not write off Mcabe Thiele so fast. I agree for regular design work a commercial simulator is the only way to go but, for trouble shooting, graphical techniques are very handy. I once atteneded a course by one of the world leaders in trouble shooting towers and He said that, when called in, and having established that the problem is nothing very obvious, the first thing he does is draw a Mcabe Thiele diagram, because you can see far more on that than you ever will from a computer printout.

RE: propane-butane equilibrium data

I agree about use of Mcabe Thiele or other procedures, process simulators are complex tools based on (simplified) models which may fail producing wrong results...
my suggestion (to use a software tool) was motivated by the request of VLE data, I presumed that mahmmoud30 was more interested to this aspect.
