Deformed element localisation

Deformed element localisation

Deformed element localisation

(OP)
Dear all,

During the dynamic impact onto composite panel using 2d shell for both an impactor and the target, it was seen that the deformed elements at the impacting centre were very localised. I think due to this, the strain values at the centre in FE were higher than those in Experiment. Even if I refine the impacted centre (or highly strain/stress gradient regions), the localisation was formed. Is it just normally expected behavior in impact scenarios. Even using fully integrated element formulations based on hourglass energy, the same things occurred.
The attached graphs shows the panel's deflection along the longitudinal wise.
