IP rating 2X finger safe

IP rating 2X finger safe

I'm searching for a precise definition of "Finger Safe" according to IEC 60529 which defines IP2X as "finger safe" for diameters > 12.5mm. Does thes mean a cylinder of 12.5mm dia. can not touch the contact?  Does the cylinder have a flat end or is there a radius on the end of the cylinder?  What is this radius?  Anyone have link to a drawing that better defines this 12.5mm "finger"

Thanks

Thanks.  That is the 1st drawing I've seen.  It helps but it still doesn't have the detailed dimensions of the tip.  Anyone else have the detailed dims of the finger tip?  I'll try printing it out and scaling it.

RE: IP rating 2X finger safe

I'll have a look when I get in to work on Monday - might have the BS equivalent to the IEC standard.

RE: IP rating 2X finger safe

It's definitely in the standard but there'll be loads of trouble if I upload a copyrighted document. Can you borrow the standard from a technical library?

If you need it to make your product, then your company should buy a copy of the standard.

How could you be possibly claim compliance to the standard if you don't even have a copy of the standard?

RE: IP rating 2X finger safe

The recession has hit us very hard and I'm sure management will not allow me to purchase the standard.  And yes, we do claim compliances to many standards that we don't keep updated copies of.  Some time in the past a customer told us how to design something to meet some standard and we did and now we claim we comply without ever owning the standard.  Looks like I'll have to make a trip to a technical library.  Thanks very much for all of your input.

RE: IP rating 2X finger safe

Your standards are dirt cheap ($200 for IEC60529). Try having to justify/purchase 5 or 6 x $1,600 standards every few years for the telecom industry.

But it really doesn't matter if you own the standards as long as your product makes it through the testing agency. Unless you just claim "compliance" but don't actually get your product tested by an NRTL. Thats a no-no that happens way too often.
