Head drop through Screen
Head drop through Screen
(OP)
Our application has a screen inclined at an angle to the stream in a tank (open channel flow).
The screen has horizontal & vertical bars as shown. The screen is inclined to the flow by some angle θ which I can determine for each application
I'm struggling to find any equation that would fit our situation. Kirschmer's equation looks promising but how would I modify for the bars running to both directions.
If anyone could point me the way to an equation/book it would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Head drop through Screen
h = (1/(C(2g)) *(Q/a)^2
C= coefficient of screen
Q = flow (cfs)
A = SF
The clear water headloss through screens may be obtained from manufacturer's rating tables or calculated by the orifice formula above.
The important determination is the headloss during operation, and this depends on the size and amount of solids in the fluid, the size of the apertures, and the method and frequency of cleaning.
