Design of Precast Craneway Beams & Columns

Design of Precast Craneway Beams & Columns

Design of Precast Craneway Beams & Columns

(OP)
I am reviewing the design of an existing craneway using precast columns, and beams supporting 25 ton and 30 ton rolling cranes.

Does anyone have any reference info for the design of craneway beams and columns in general? (Steel or precast, should be similar).

The National Building code of Canada has a section on Crane-Supporting Structures, so I'll be reviewing that as well.

RE: Design of Precast Craneway Beams & Columns

It is not difficult to find some guides for steel runway cranes; there is one AISC design guide on Industrial buildings that has a section on this

Except for the structure itself and magnitude and range of loads the effects of fatigue are present in bridges, even to bigger number of cycles. So you can check codes for these as well on that subject. Attention to range of stresses, tensile and bond for passive and active steel is paramount. Being an old structure it pertains the consideration of the spent cycles to ascertain where to put our limits for fatigue for the rest of projected structural life, or get some proper evaluation of some reliable further life at the projected rates of use.
