Exporting a User Defined Tool
Exporting a User Defined Tool
(OP)
Hello,
I have a created a user defined mill tool and I am having trouble exporting it to another part file. Also, there does not appear to be an option to export the tool to the tool library? Do I have to recreate this tool in every part I want to use it in?
Thanks,
Rick

In the tool parameter screen, in the library pull down, you should be able to give the tool a unique name and hit the "export to library" button. Then you can retrieve it from the library whenever you want to use it.
Another option is to use the "Browse" option for creating a tool.
First, open the file that contains the tool you want to copy. Right click the tool, choose "object", choose "template settings", then tick the check box allowing you to use object as a template. Save the file and close it.
Second, open your new file and create a tool. In the type pull down select "browse". Browse to the file that contains the tool you want and you should be able to grab any tool(s) that you changed the template settings on.
The template setting can be used on just about any object you want to be available in other files.

Thanks for the info, changing the template settings worked great, and I can import the part with ease. As for the export to library option, I cant find it. The tool is a corner rounding end mill. The Parameters window has three tabs, "main", "holder", and "more". The only export option I see is to export the holder to the library, I do not see anything that will allow me to export the tool to the library. But I do have the option in other tools that I have created, but they were simple end mills and slotting cutters, nothing with a profile.
Thanks,
Rick

Until you upgrade, just make the tool a template as suggested and bring it in that way.
