Cloning deliverable assemblies in NX6?

Cloning deliverable assemblies in NX6?

Cloning deliverable assemblies in NX6?

(OP)
Allright... I've been using the cloning tool in NX4 for years. It works ok but I've always been frustrated with having to append the files names. I never had any success with it otherwise.

All I want to do is clone Assembly content "as is" to ditch all the orphaned parts and clean up the folder.

Anyone have any knowledge of a different tool set for this? Or has ver 6 been enhanced to allow this now?

TIA

Dave

RE: Cloning deliverable assemblies in NX6?

Have you looked into the 'Zip Assembly' utility?  It has been discussed here before and I've been using it for years.  You can find a free download at:

http://www.w-eng.de/ugzipc.htm

Note that despite the fact that the site above only mentions NX 2.0 and NX 3.0, I've tested this on all recent releases including NX 4.0 thru NX 7.0 and even NX 7.5, and it works just fine.

Now for your situation, I would use it to zip-up your current assembly (it will only include the components associated with the assembly which you run this Utility against), then delete all the files except the zipped file, then simply unzip it and you will be right where you want to be, with only the original assembly and it's components, all with their original file names still intact.

Note that the download comes with instructions as to how to install it so that a 'Zip Assembly...' option is automatically added the NX File pull-down menu which will make it very easy to get access to it when needed.

I've tried this app before... tho be it half heartedly as an early user. Didnt have any luck with it.

Just downloaded and I'm looking at it now... the "read me" isn't all that clear. As in step by step.

But I'm going to give it a shot... it would be so nice to have!

Ok... I made placed the "startup" and application" folders into my own library path.

Looks like this...

C:\NX_Lib\UG_PC\startup
C:\NX_Lib\UG_PC\application

Then made an environment variable...

UG_USER_DIR
C:\NX_Lib\UG_PC

But isn't there an software "install" I'm missing?
The file -> export -> zip assembly isn't just going to appear there.

What gives???

TIA

GOT IT! :)

Thanks John

I suspect you discovered that it ends up on the File pull-down menu itself and not on the Export sub-menu.
