External Design Tables and copying assemblies

External Design Tables and copying assemblies

External Design Tables and copying assemblies

(OP)
I have an external design table the performs calculations to size components for an assembly. It controls the assembly and the parts.

I want to make a copy of the assembly using "Pack N Go". When I do so the copied files still point to the old design table location. Is there a way to get the references to the external design table to update with the move of files?

RE: External Design Tables and copying assemblies

In short, no.

If the calculation table is made externally as a separate Excell spread sheet, it will only point to the original model file(s) that the sheet is concerned with.

The Excel sheet will have to be copied and pointed to the new file(s).  This because the property information for a given dimension in the Excel cell points to the cooresponding dimension in the SW model file that it started from.  The model name does not change in the cell information when the copying occurs.

If the table was imbedded with the design table function in SolidWorks, you have better luck with copying process.

Just import the excel into a design table in solidworks.

James,

The design table was developed to run the assembly and all the parts. That is the problem.

Have you thought about a making them via a macro where you input what you need?

Yup, but it's a legacy issue.
