What is the maximum recorded wet bulb temperature ?  What happens if the wet bulb temperature exceeds 36.9 deg C (98.4 deg F) ?

RE: Maximum recorded wet bulb temperature

At atmospheric pressure I imagine the maximum possible measurable wet bulb temperature would be 100C.

However, at 36.9C a black hole would form at the center of your sling pyschrometer.

RE: Maximum recorded wet bulb temperature

If you were getting ambient wet bulbs like that I would say you were in the Persian Gulf. I think they recorded a record 95F dew point somewhere in Saudi Arabia, dry bulb was up around 120F.

The way we build has a far greater impact on our comfort, energy consumption and IAQ, than any HVAC system we install

RE: Maximum recorded wet bulb temperature

I think I recorded a wet bulb like that in a steam room...

RE: Maximum recorded wet bulb temperature

Most of the dry places have by nature lower wet bulb temperature.
Maximum wet bulb temperature shall be at the most few degrees lesser than the maximum dry bulb temperature.

MintJulep - What exactly do you mean by the black hole formation at 36.9 deg C and why ?

RE: Maximum recorded wet bulb temperature

Why do you think anything special would happen at all at normal body temperature?

RE: Maximum recorded wet bulb temperature

No idea !!! That's why I asked the question !

RE: Maximum recorded wet bulb temperature

A wet bulb temperature above body temp. means that perspiration  cannot cool the body. In fact water will condense on the skin and warm it.

RE: Maximum recorded wet bulb temperature

Remember too that skin surface temp is only about 91F or so (33C)

Good on ya,
