INSERT MOULDING

INSERT MOULDING

INSERT MOULDING

(OP)
I am requesting information about the technique of plastic injection on metallic pieces. Could you please send me as much information as possible? (tipology of used machinery, injection procedures, main used materials, compatibility plastic-metal, etc).
Thank you in advance,

RE: INSERT MOULDING

Molding plastic onto metal is a common practice using injection molding. There is no different equipment needed unless you use a robot to load the metal inserts. They difference in the process will be in the mold itself. You will need to have something in the mold to support the metal insert while the mold is closing and injecting plastic. The plastic is then molded around the metal and ejected the same as you would eject a plastic only part. As far as compatibility of metal and plastic, you shuold be able to use virtually any combination. The plastic and metal will be bonded mechanically. This means you may have to add through holes for the plastic to flow through in order to lock onto the metal. If this is not possible, knurling on the metal can also help hold the plastic in place. If you leave the metal and plastic without any interference, it will likely slip if any significant force is applied. Hope this helps.

RE: INSERT MOULDING

It is not strickly true that no special equipment is used, in certain cases where many inserts are to be loaded a verticle Injection machine is used. But granted usually a standard machine is used.
