Jib Crane Foundation

Jib Crane Foundation

Jib Crane Foundation

(OP)
I am trying to find out where to look to determine if the grout used at the foundation of a pillar type jib crane is satisfactory or not. The crane rated 2 ton with a 36" x 36" base plate sitting on a 2-1/2" thick, 39" x 39" grout slab. Cracks are visible along the thickness of the grout slab at its outer edges, however the cement below the grout is in very good condition. I don't have much of a background when it comes to foundations. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Jib Crane Foundation

keep post to one thread please.

Sorry, I wasn't sure if this would get more responses being in the Structural Engineers Area vs. The Geotechnical Engineers Area.

RE: Jib Crane Foundation

Doesn't sound like a problem to me.  The grout is going to crack.  It only carries compressive stresses which the cracks won't affect.

XPDQ,

Should have been in this forum only.  Has no relevance to geotechnical.

RE: Jib Crane Foundation

I've grouted column bases with metallic grout and it cracked where it was not confined, but was fine under the base plate.
