Can't Display a Matrix

Can't Display a Matrix

Can't Display a Matrix

(OP)
I'm using V13 and I've populated a 6X60 matrix and want to display it.  When I type "Mat[1,45 =" it gives the correct value, no problem.  When I do like the help screen says and type "Mat =" I get two input blocks.

I can't find a setting that could be causing this.  Anyone have any ideas?

RE: Can't Display a Matrix

If you mean by that, that you only get something like M=((16,1)(16,1)), double click on it and adjust display options: "Expand nested arrays"

No I mean that I get two tiny squares, just like when defining a new variable.

I was able to use the WRITEPRN to build a text file of the matrix and got what I needed.  I will avoid dealing with PTC until I decide to go with another product.

I've gotten help at the Collab, but never without a few "have you always been this dumb?" kind of comments (many were deserved, the "programming" syntax is pretty foreign to me).  Don't have time for the abuse today.

I get a pop-up with "failed to launch server application" a couple dozen times and the matrix does not display.  I guess that supports the idea that I have a busted install.

Thanks

RE: Can't Display a Matrix

I have seen this before. One solution I have come across is to delete all the files in the following directory C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mathsoft\Mathcad\13\LocalAssemblyCache. They should be regenerated when you start Mathcad the next time.
But, as always, should you or any of your IM force be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This tape will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck, David.

Occupant,
That was an amazingly good try.  It didn't work, but it was a really good idea.  I deleted the files (and left the folder).  Started MathCad and the problem was still there.  I shut it down and looked again and the folder was gone.  I recreated the folder and MathCad started WAY faster than it had been starting, but the Matrix didn't display.

The problem has to be something like that.  I can't reboot right now, maybe it'll work after I finish what I'm working on and restart.

Thanks

David

Occupant,
I still like your response, but after rebooting it still doesn't display a matrix.  My work around to write it to a text file gets me most of the way, but it is a bit of a pain.

RE: Can't Display a Matrix

Well, I guess you have no choice, but to re-install maybe with the repair option.

RE: Can't Display a Matrix

One possible workaround is to dump the matrix into the Excel component, if you can't get it to repair.  I've gotten a similar problem in that the table won't display, but the matrix will.

Have you tried to change the result format from Auto to Matrix?

There is always one who gives that impression.... Sort of a 'lost in translation' problem.

Another option is to "repair" the installation (having deleted the cache as first go). You do that via control panels >> add/remove programmes, then click the install button to be given the option to repair. If you have previous versions, do then in version order (oldest first).

Philipoakly,
That fixed it.  It was a bit of a scramble to find the install disks, but at least I didn't get any "exceeded installs" messages.  Thank you.

IRstuff,
Its been a couple of years since I've been there and I don't remember the guy's name, last time I was trying to do a massive goal seek and messed up the derivative.  The "goal seek" guy (who was amazingly knowledgeable, just a jerk) took me to task for being too stupid to take a simple derivative.  I didn't think I was all that stupid, but I did make a stupid mistake that I couldn't make myself see.  Oh well.  Most of my questions are basic enough to not need the Collab.  The help I've gotten at eng-tips.com has been much more civil.

David
