NFPA #13 2007 Ed.

8.15.1.2.9  Concealed spaces over isolated small rooms not exceeding 55 ft2 (5.1 m2) in area shall not require sprinkler protection.

"Isolated small rooms" is this meant to be a reference to the definition of a "small room" as indicated in 3.3.15 meaning it has to be light hazard etc.?

Also, does "isolated" refer to being remote or to being separated from other adjacent rooms with a fire rating?

RE: Is NFPA #13 8.15.1.2.9 referencing a DIFFERENT type of small room?

not same as small room rule

do not have the book, but do not believe any rating is required, maybe fire blocking only?? think the idea is fire maybe will not start there, or no reason to require spinklers in the area

if you think of an area above a ceiling in a restroom, something like that small

another thing... you can have two such small rooms adjacent to each other right? Isolation in this sense means isolated (by a barrier)from the common attic space right?
