Engineering Documents

(OP)
Hi,

I was wondering what all different kind of Engineering documents are involved in a design of a product right from its concept development stage to production or manufacturing stage.

To name few of them:

Engineering Change Order (ECO)
Engineering Change Request (ECR)
Production Plan Wordsheet (PPW)
Project Implementation Report ( PIR)
Product Performance Specifications (PPS)

Please name other kind of documents so that we can have better understanding of how the product design and development took place.

Thank You
Vishal

RE: Engineering Documents

How does knowing the names of types of documents (many of which will have more than one name) help you understand how products are designed and developed?

The key to success is to have all of the documents that you need and none that you don't.

RE: Engineering Documents

What is this, homework?

SOW, STR, CoD, SDR, Type Record, FMECA, TERD, OERD, Risk Register...

The list is almost endless and varies by time, geographic location, scope of project, industry and even company or department within a company.

The same basic thing may get called different things in different places at different times.  Or in some places a single document may cover several aspects, in other's each aspect may have it's own document.

This question is almost meaningless without some serious contextual information.

KENAT,

Have you reminded yourself of FAQ731-376: Eng-Tips.com Forum Policies recently, or taken a look at posting policies: http://eng-tips.com/market.cfm?
What is Engineering anyway: FAQ1088-1484: In layman terms, what is "engineering"?

RE: Engineering Documents

Different companies have different names for their documents. It will not help you out very much to know the names of these documents.

You should consider 'What do I need to record?' and then think of documents that will serve you best.

If you really need a list, then narrow down your question and mention the relevant industry, products, customers and regulatory organizations to get best responses.
