Hi everybody!!!

I have a project to do but on initial specifications, the client wants that I supply an equipment (tip flare) but he (in his specifications) wants the tip flare in ASTM A-312 (that specification is for PIPE), but my problem is that in the calculus of tip flare, the calculus gives me 10" diameter. I have not found any USA company that can sell me STAINLESS STEEL WITH SEAM PIPE OF 10" DIAMETER SCHEDULE 20. So I´m thinking to do it in plate (ASTM A-240), and then rolled it and then weld it. But In initial specifications says that it must be ASTM A-312 (PIPE) and how I can not find any USA company that suppies ASTM A-312 TP-310 with seam of 10" diameter schedule 20, I`m afraid that the client rejects my proposal bis a bis the project. So I`m here to ask you if it is possible to demostrate or to show that ASTM A-240, after roll it and weld it and with a Xray test, it can fulfill as ASTM A-312??????? What will it be the procedure?

Please give me all your comments about it.

P.d. For Eng that do know what tip flare is, imagine that tip flare is simply a hollow cilinder (main body).And if you asked me about if there is high inside pressure, the maximum pressure is 2 psig....so it will not work under high pressures.

We do this all the time and since this is a non pressure containing component you are clear all around as for code complience. You should clear this with the client also.

Could you use Sch 40?
Could you use 309 SS?
What quanity do you need?

I would give these people a call even though they don't list Sch 20 they may have a source.

Shouldn't be an issue since that is exactly how the pipe is made.  No point in smls, welded should be fine.  With these thin walls you might even weld without filler.  You have options, just make sure that you explain it clearly.
