VALVE face to face, design code and end code
VALVE face to face, design code and end code
(OP)
Hi all,
I don´t have so much experiencie in valves and I would like to do some questions to make clear some knows. I don´t know if exist some summary of the codes that applies in different valves.
END CONNECTION CODES:
- butt weld end --> ASME B16.25
- flange end -----> ASME B16.5
- socket end -----> ASME B16.11
- threaded end ---> ?????
DESING CODE:
- threaded, flanged and welding valves ----> ASME B16.34
- other material not specify in B16.34
for example bronze ----------------------> ????
- others, ... -----------------------------> ????
END TO END DIMENSIONS:
- butt welding and flange ends ----> ASME B16.10
- theaded ball valves -------------> ????
- socket --------------------------> ????
THIS INFORMATION IS THE MOST IMPORTAN TO
ME, AND I DON´T FIND THIS CODES (socket and theaded)
Thanks in advance to everyone that can help me.

RE: VALVE face to face, design code and end code
ASME
The B16 committee applies to various valve and connection fitting standards.
B16.10 covers end to end dimensions of valves.
B16.25 covers butt welding fittings
B16.34 covers valve design and is a key standard that you should obtain.
API
6FA and 6FC cover fire safe valves
RP553 covers refinery control valves
RP591 Valve qualification
6D pipeline valves
Std 589 covers fire testing of valve stem packing
Std 598 is a key valve inspection document that you should obtain.
Std 600 gate valves
602 globe check
Std 603 corrosion resistant gates
607 fire safe quarter turn valves
608 metal ball valves
609 butterfly
Std 622 packing fugitive emission
ASTM includes standards for the materials and valve testing
F 1373 automatic valve cycle life
F 1802 excess flow valve testing
ISA
The 75 series applies to control valves including sizing, testing, terms, dimensions, noise, response, diagnostics,
75.08.03 covers globe control valve dimensions.
MSS SP series covers valves
SP-105 covers instrument valves
SP-116 drinking water valves
120 flexible graphite packing in rising stem valves
132 compression packing
137 positive material identification
25 marking, a key standard
SP-6 flange faces
61 pressure testing
67 and 68 butterfly
72 ball
92 valve user guide
PIP PCCCV001 control valve selection
UL 842 Safety standard for flammable fluid valves

It's helpful to use 2 or 3 vendors, just in case.

As stated by others generally for all threaded & socket end connection the end to end dimension are as per the manufacturers so the end to end dimension varies slightly from vendor to vendor
Regarding your query on end connection for the threaded valves ASME 16.11 covers the dimensions...
JLSeagull has covered most standards which are used in the valve industry , i would like to add one more standard which he missed out, MSS SP 80 which is exclusively for Bronze Gate globe & check valves .
thanks
