elliptical flange?

elliptical flange?

elliptical flange?

(OP)
can anyone tell me if there is a way to put a flange on an elliptical hole? im currently drawing a rib for a aircraft wing that has two eliptical lightening holes, and they need to be flanged. every time i go to complete the flange, it comes up with a rebuild error, but the strange thing is that it shows a preview of the flange. the rib is .025" thick with a 2x3 elliptical hole. the flange is 3/8x45 deg on a .075 radius. any help would be appreciated greatly. thanks

RE: elliptical flange?

Can you post an image? Or even better, the part itself?

Is this a sheet metal part?

RE: elliptical flange?

I don't know if this is a limitation or bug in sheet metal. The flange can be applied to an external ellipse and a round hole, but not to an elliptical hole.

ill see if i can post an image real quick

this isnt the part with the 2x3 hole, but close enough.

RE: elliptical flange?

Have you asked your VAR about this yet. If not I suggest you do, to find out whether it is a limitation or bug.
