Is there not an NFPA standard for aircraft fire extinguishers (halon 1211) or is it strictly the purview of the IMO?

RE: Aircraft fire suppression

Transportation CFRs and FAA Advisory Circulars likely cover the aircraft design and appurtanance requirements such as hand and automated fire suppression.

Thx for the links cd. I did a search in the on-line NFPA codes for 'aircraft' and came up empty other than aircraft hangers. Given the broad range of things NFPA covers I found that odd. I checked with Kidde and they informed me that only 1211 is acceptable as an aircraft extinguishing agent and that you had to be IMO certified to deal with Halon in these circumstances.

RE: Aircraft fire suppression

The aviation circular 20-42C for hand extinguishers that I have on my drive is very old.  However it lists several of the FARs.  All of these are available free on the web and via CD ROM from several sites such as Sporty's.
