I work for a Heavy duty hydraulic machine manufacturer. We use proximity sensors on our redundant drop prevention method. Lately these sensors have been failing on us. What is the best/most reliable proximity sensor manufacturer out there?

Magnetic, capacitive, inductive, Balluff by far, followed by Turck.
Photo, laser, IR, Sick Sensor Intelligence followed by Omron / STI.
All of those companies do nothing by sensors and accessories for sensors. Most of the others, such as A-B, Schneider, Siemens etc. have sensors as a "me too" product. Good, but just good enough.
There are a lot of others dedicated sensor mfrs as well such as IMF-Effector, Tritronics and Keyence who focus on being the low cost leaders, but I have had nothing but trouble with low cost products. They always end up costing more in the long run because when they fail, it's always expensive.
