(OP)
Customer spec.requires A815 WP-S fittings, fabricator received A-815 fittings without the WP-S markings on the fitting. The supplier stated that the fabricator requested  block pattern which means they were made from bar or forged blocks. Therefore, they can't put WP on the fitting as it would be a incorrect designation. In addition the supplier states that WP means wrought pipe and if returned they would stamp "seamless" on the fittings. My response was WP stands for wrought product and fittings are built to a standard (B16.9),sa182 requires the fittings be marked with WP-S,if return stamped "seamless" they will be rejected again. In addition I told the supplier if its not a castings its a wrought product.Sounds like a lot of double talk from the supplier to me.Can anyone shed some light or correct me if i'm wrong? Thanks

RE: fittings

First, WP stands for Weldable Pipe fitting, not wrought product. Another example, castings produced to a different ASTM specification are marked as WCB, meaning a Weldable Cast (Grade) B carbon steel.

Second, if a fitting is welded, it must be marked with a suffix W after the designation. If it is unmarked, it is seamless.
