Post-bearing and Ultimate Bearing Bllowable concept

Post-bearing and Ultimate Bearing Bllowable concept

Post-bearing and Ultimate Bearing Bllowable concept

(OP)
Hello,

* Problem:
lets say that we have 2 Al plates (0.2 inches thick) joined by means of several Ti fasteners. At Ultimate Load, the load of one of the fasteners is higher than the Fbru (ultimate bearing allowable).

* Questions:
1. Is it possible to consider that this fastener can take load till Fbru is reached and redistribute the exceeding load among the rest of the fasteners (but still keeping itself the Fbru load)?

2. What happens when a fastener has reached the Fbru of the plate?
What happens when it reaches the Fbry (yield. bearing allowable)?
I ask this because I can understand that we can define Fbry as the load when the material of the plate starts the plastification (am I right?). But what happens after that moment if we keep increasing the load?: I can imagine a bigger plastification area, but how can we determine that we have reached the Fbru? It could help if I knew how the test to determine Fbry and Fbru of a meterial are performed.

Thanks!

You can learn about bearing properties testing by reading ASTM E 238 Standard Test Method for Pin-Type Bearing Test of Metallic Materials, available from ASTM International at:
