Transfering results from Femap to Patran
Transfering results from Femap to Patran
(OP)
Hi All,
Currently working on a large model with a section modeled and meshed by another company. I have used this section of the model to update our mesh and run the analysis. i would like to send the mesh of their model back to them so that they may review it.
Problem is that we are using Femap v10 and they are using Patran 2009r1. Is there anyway that I export the model with results included. The Femap Neutral is not working as it is causing errors when they go to import the file.
Regards,
Jeffrey

RE: Transfering results from Femap to Patran
Option1> When you run your model for analysis with NX Nastran from FEMAP the program generates the nastran input file deck with the extension *.dat, this is the file that Patran can read directly, or the another company can send directly the *.dat to msc.nastran solver and postprocess in Patran the *.op2 file.
Option2> in Femap go to File > Export > Analysis Model and click on "Other Interfaces" and select Patran, click YES to expand constrains, and select the Cosntraint Sets to expand, and FEMAP will write your model in Patran ASCII format as *.Pat.
Not any progran can interface with Patran as well as FEMAP, so sure you will be success!!.

Blas.

Is there any way to have the results transferred, this is what they need to review, I will only be sending back the section of the mesh that they provided as the rest is just to large to handle.
The .Pat file only transfers the mesh, loads and constraints. Unfortunately it does not appear to transfer the result vectors.

RE: Transfering results from Femap to Patran
Yes, of course, if you run FEMAP & NX NASTRAN you can solve your model in FEMAP and you will have not only the *.dat file (nastran input) but also the following output files: *.f06, this is the nastran ASCII output file, and
*.op2, this is the nastran binary results file. If you send to the other company not only the *.dat file but also the *.op2 binary file they will be able to postprocess the nastran results in Patran as you do in Femap. Please note FEMAP is the genuine pre&postprocessor for nastran, not matter msc.nastran, nx.nastran, etc..

Blas.

I am definitely getting the feeling that it is not possible to transfer the results to them.

I have an idea that may work. Will post it, if it does work

RE: Transfering results from Femap to Patran
What you need is very easy to perform & Femap & NX Nastran: what you have to do is to create a group of the nodes & elements where you want to have results. Then edit the active analysis in Analysis Set Manager and go to the Nastran Output Request, this is where you ask for the type of nodal & elemental results you want (Displacements, Stress, Force, etc..). You will see in each at each request you have the option 0..FULL MODEL, simply click here and use your group. The *.op2 file will include results for nodes & elements only on the group, OK?. And model size will be smaller.

Blas.

Thanks Blas
Would be nice if there were a direct translator. Unlikely since MSC and UGS are on the outs.
