Naming parts upon creation within assembly

Naming parts upon creation within assembly

Naming parts upon creation within assembly

(OP)
In the past, while using sw07, I would create a new component by "insert - component - new part". Then I would be prompted to name the new component. I have noticed that since updating to sw09 solidworks names the component for me. Does anyone know if there is a setting to allow naming within assembly? Thanks.

RE: Naming parts upon creation within assembly

Everything relating to in-context parts has change.  Look up "Virtual Components" in the Help.  It's a bit of a pain in the o-ring.

The new component can still be renamed using the normal slow-double-click selection (or F2), but it would be nice to be able to name the component when inserting ... similar to the "Name feature on creation" option.

Submit an ER.

Yeah, so what's the big green check mark for?
What is SW expecting me to do?

Mike ... If you mean the green tick by the cursor after using the Insert > New Component tool, it's to accept and close  the new component. If the cursor is hovered over an existing part in the assy, the cursor will change to a surface icon and, if clicked, will create an active sketch in the new component.

That's exactly what I meant.  Thanks.
