INCREASE COOLING LOOP CAPACITY

INCREASE COOLING LOOP CAPACITY

INCREASE COOLING LOOP CAPACITY

(OP)
hey all,

I have one question related to increase cooling loop capacity using pump capcity. anyone can suggest me that how i can increase pump capacity means i can change pump type or impeller dia or speed?? please give me advise on it and at the same time change must be economically  viable. thanks.

RE: INCREASE COOLING LOOP CAPACITY

If you can replace your impeller with a larger one would be easiest most likely.

Or if you have a spare you can put on line at the same time that would solve your issue.

RE: INCREASE COOLING LOOP CAPACITY

Maybe use an electronic variable speed drive or retro fit a speed increasing belt drive to increase the pump speed?  You may need to check the motor is big enough.  HTH.

RE: INCREASE COOLING LOOP CAPACITY

I would suggest that you study up on the basic principals of pump performance or hand this problem off to a mechanical engineer with pump experience. Your question is much too general to get good answers here.  The capacity of a centrifugal pump is related to the intersection of the pump curve and the system curve. If you wish to increase the capacity, you can change the pump curve (increased impeller diameter, different impeller pattern, increased speed, add stages) or you can change the system curve (increased suction head, decreased pressure drop through exchangers, control valves or piping).  Any increase in capacity will require a reevaluation of the available driver horsepower, suction head margin, operating point relative to the best efficiency point and possibly other parameters

I really thank full for your answer johnny and joy and ash. so in order to increase cooling loop capacity i have to have play with pump. is there any otherway means instead of playing with pump i can do somthin with operation or process..??

RE: INCREASE COOLING LOOP CAPACITY

An actual survey or analysis of the temperature drops in the system might be revealing.  You might find that your heat exchangers are already maxed out, in which case, increasing the flow might do little improve performance.

Be careful what you play with smile

RE: INCREASE COOLING LOOP CAPACITY

Must agree wiht IRstuff, you ned to survey all use points in the cooling circuit. You will also need to look at the size of the cooler or heat pump or cooling towers or whatever equipment you are using to absorb the heat load. assesment of the capicity of this is also required.

I am planning to debottleneck cooling loop for increase gain. planning to go fo DCS tunning for perticular loop. is it make sense?? i want to know ur recommedations guys?

RE: INCREASE COOLING LOOP CAPACITY

I think you should look at your pump motor and impeller sizes first.  If you can increase impeller size without a jump in motor *frame* size, even if it might mean an increase in motor *bhp*, that might be the easiest.  The second thing you can look at is your throttle points (flow balance points).  You might be able to achieve adequate system control at lower dP at your flow balance points.  After those two considerations, redundancy in the pump or going to inverter duty motors with VFDs can be looked at.

thanks snorgy. i have all detail. let me check with new impeller size. but i didtn that about throttle point. can u put little light on it. actually u r tryting say me that i have to control my system at lower dp in order to get maximum throughput.
