Special Concerns in PRVÆs for HP Air System.

Special Concerns in PRVÆs for HP Air System.

(OP)
We have a hp air system that charges a receiver up to 3000 psig. There are no dryers in the system, other than the accumulator acting as a moisture separator which gets drained off manually once a day. The downsteam system air will be considered as saturated.

I have to design a reducing station for compressed air that drops pressure from 3000 psig to 600 psig. This is quite a large drop to make in one step and am wondering if icing at the outlet is a concern that should be considered. And if so, what is the typical solution?

Same question applies to the safety relief valves on either side of the prv – does icing ever affect the performance or flow of a safety?   And how is it to be addressed?

Is B31.1 the applicable Code for an air system or is B31.3?

Thanks

You may want to try the Safety Relief Valve Engineering forum.
