Kill-a-Watt users
(OP)
I want to estimate the energy consumption in watt-hours of your typical household top-loading clothes washing machine, for one load of laundry. Assuming it takes a half hour to run through the cycle, for a ballpark guess I would say 20 minute use of a half horsepower motor would work out to about 124 watt-hours. Has anyone with a Kill-a-Watt instrument actually made this measurement? Thanks.
Later, John.

Why don't you look up the Energy Star kW usage numbers and see if you can root out a viable number.

Energy Star is about comparisons. Compared to an older washer, that 10W parasitic load is insignificant.
The interesting thing is, if EVERYONE buys an Energy Star rated washer, would the comparable standard then become what we consider the Energy-Star level of efficiency now?

Besides I had a energy star frond loader washer, which lasted about two years due to the poorly designed bearings. Threw it out for a cheep top loader. I figgure I save a bunch of money just in the orignal lower cost.
