Corrosion prevention on carbon steel container
Corrosion prevention on carbon steel container
(OP)
Hello all,
I am dealing with the supply of a painted mild steel container for offshore use & need to affix 316 stainless steel components/bolts on internal panels (painted mild steel) of the unit.
We are using rivet nuts and am unsure whether to go for stainless steel or zinc plated rivnuts through the drilled holes.
Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thx

RE: Corrosion prevention on carbon steel container
I would think a zinc plated rivnut would be better in the painted steel panel.
Any chance to isolate the carbon steel and stainless steel components (PTFE washers, spacers, etc.)? I don't recommend polymeric components in the clamped region of the joint (preload loss due to creep).
