RC load

RC load

(OP)
I have a very simple question! What is the output voltage of a series RC load? Suppose the Vin is AC!
Here is the picture!(attached)

RE: RC load

It can be solved using a simple voltage divider based on the impedances.

Is this a homework question?

RE: RC load

No, this is not a homework! I have to connect  R, RL, RC, RLC loads to an induction generator! R and RL works fine, you can see the voltage drop at the IG terminals, but RC and RLC are giving me hard time. In the first two cases the dif. equation is described by currents. But at RC and RLC voltages are involved in the dif. equation, and I will have to make changes! I hope I can cope with it! Otherwise, you will hear about me soon!-))))))))thumbsup2

RE: RC load

Let's say it this way:
Zr = R
Zc = 1/(I*2*pi*f*C)
Zload = ? (you didn't tell us).
Zcparaload = Zc*Zload/(Zc+Zload)
(Zcparaload is Zc in parallel with Zload)

Voltage divider:
Vout=Vin*Zcparload/(Zr+Zcparaload)
where complex (vector) arithmetic is used, sinusoidal steady state is assumed

If Zload =0, then
Vout=Vin*Zc/(Zr+Zc)
|Vout|=|Vin|* |Zc|/sqrt(R^2+|Zc|^2)
where |Zc| = 1/(2*pi*f*c)
