Minimum Weld leg required on head

Minimum Weld leg required on head

(OP)
Dear Sir,
I would like to ask some question about minimum weld leg size as per UW-16 on head section. In order to nozzle neck thickness 9.53 mm. are welded to 2:1 ellipsoidal head with 10 mm. and thickness after forming 7 mm. (inserted into top head section), the program show the result that tmin = 9.53 mm. . Is it possible ? due to in my opinion was 7 mm as minimum thickness after forming of head also conform with tmin as per UW-16 that the thinner part should be head not nozzle neck. Please clarify this matter.

Best Regards

RE: Minimum Weld leg required on head

Sounds like your program is not given (or recognizing) the head min thickness.

RE: Minimum Weld leg required on head

nongheng,
The thinning of the head only occurs in the knuckle area. Your nozzle is inserted in the 10 mm thickness of the head and the groove weld is 10 mm, so the nozzle neck thickness of 3/8" (9.525 mm) is governing the size of the fillet weld.
