COZZONE METHOD FOR PLATES
COZZONE METHOD FOR PLATES
(OP)
Dear all,
I am searching a method to calculate the plastic limit (at bending) for a support that I suppose it can be semplified with a plate (see attached image, pink color part: http ://files.e ngineering .com/getfi le.aspx?fo lder=25751 c70-61a7-4 654-a228-2 605004bc06 d&file =photo.bmp).
This part takes the load coming from the upper ramp (yellow color), which is destinated to support an heavy cabling.
Locking at C3 of Bruhn, the Cozzone method seems interesting, but here it is limited to beams.
Could someone suggest me a way to use this method for a plate?
Thank you!!!
Alessandro

RE: COZZONE METHOD FOR PLATES
i don't think i'd call the pink shape a "plate" ... it looks like it's got formed flanges and flanged lightening holes, which imply thin gauge.
if you can't pass this with a hand calc (consider the bent flange as a beam in bending) then i think you're in for a full FEA (material non-linear, contact, large disp) ... if we're contacting along the long edge of the pink shape, it will yield at some stage, and this'll redistribute contact load towards the (stiffer) ends (away from the more compliant middle).
good luck !

I agree with what you have just said. Thank you for your answer.
What I have defined "ramp" is the bent rod you have seen in yellow color.
In general, we have done a linear FEM analysis on this system and we found stress values higher than the yield stress. Now, I would like to consider the plastic contribute (the material is aluminium 2024-T3) in order to justify it anyway.
If I consider the pink shape as a beam (I really do not want to complicate my life!) could I apply the cozzone method to find an higher admissible stress?
Thank you all again!
Alessandro
RE: COZZONE METHOD FOR PLATES
everything looks pretty "flimsy", maybe load would redistribute towards the less compliant supports ?
RE: COZZONE METHOD FOR PLATES
this is a photo of the real function of the ramp. As you seen it is used to support a cable routing.
