How to determine Q of existing well

How to determine Q of existing well

How to determine Q of existing well

(OP)
Is there a way to determine the flow rate of an existing water well? I need to build a model of an existing water system supplied by 6 wells. I obtained the well numbers from the casing and called the well driller, but they do not have any information on the output of those wells. Is there any other way to determine it?

RE: How to determine Q of existing well

The well driller should have done a pump test when the well was installed. That pump test will show the well capacity.

The well driller also should be able to provide you with an estimate of well capacity based on the output of similiar wells in the vicinty.

Your most accurate estimate would come from an experienced well driller. The answer that he provided to you does not make sense. I would go back to him and see if he can provide better information.

RE: How to determine Q of existing well

Can you do a pumping test from each well? The well driller may have info on the day he did the pump test, ut since it is an existing system, that may have been a long time ago.

RE: How to determine Q of existing well

most wells have to be registered with the state and the information you seek should have been supplied to them when the well was permitted.

RE: How to determine Q of existing well

Are you looking for well capacity or pump capacity?

If well capacity, do like the above said and run a pump test.

If pump capacity, do you have a place to put a strap on ultrasonic flow meter?  Or can you install a permanent flow meter?  It should have one anyway.
