50Hz Transformer run on 60Hz system
50Hz Transformer run on 60Hz system
(OP)
Good afternoon all,
I am modeling a system that appears to have 50Hz equipment running on a 60Hz system.
I am particularly interested in knowing the affects of this difference in frequency on nameplate ratings on transformers. I can guess that the %Z would be 120% of the listed %Z due to the frequency increase, but I feel there are other considerations that I am overlooking. Are there any notable references (or threads in this forum -- I was unable to find what I was looking for) on this subject?
Thank you for the help,
Tim

One question from that FAQ: it states that cooling is reduced when a 60Hz motor is ran at 50Hz. What is physically occurring that would cause the cooling to be poorer when run at 50Hz... is it due to the higher V/f ratio?
Thanks for the help,
Tim
