Marine Variable Frequency Propulsion Drives
Marine Variable Frequency Propulsion Drives
(OP)
Has anyone studied the efficiency differences between the marine propulsion drives systems available?
I understand and suspect that the now legacy CEGELEC (Alstom) variable frequency drives are the most efficient marine propulsion drives across all speeds. Nevertheless, I like to see a study or some research data on the matter.
Thank you.

RE: Marine Variable Frequency Propulsion Drives
I think on Mississippi River one could see coal firing steam boats up today.
The steam engine efficiency was about 20%.Was very cheap and very polluting mean. And jet also 20-25% and more expensive fuel.
If you intend to search Diesel-Electric efficiency vs. Diesel efficiency see the following link.
