2-stroke reference

(OP)
hi automotive folks.  i'm new to this particular forum.  i'm an ME that normally posts in the pressure vessel and power piping area of eng-tips, but having discovered that this place goes as narrow as bicycle engineering, i thought i'd look around for a minute.  then i thought i'd look for something of personal interest, and voila...ic engines!

i tinker around with 2-stroke mopeds.  i was wondering if anyone here knows of a few good technical references on the subject of 2-stroke engines (of small displacement) that i might pick up for myself.  i have one of these little bikes running good at about 50mph topped-out on flat ground, and another that is light years from it, and also a difficult (expensive) engine to tune.  i was wondering what i could do to this thing on the cheap to get it going.

anyone have any good reads for me?

RE: 2-stroke reference

There is the large book by Gordon Blair. To me, it is much too oriented toward "buy my program" than presenting good technical writing. I also have a copy of Two Stroke Tuners Handbook by Gordon Jennings, from HP Books. I read it years ago and my recollection is that it is more down to earth.

RE: 2-stroke reference

I believe Two Stroke Tuners Handbook by Gordon Jennings, from HP Books is out of print but I found a PDF on the web a few years ago.  I didn't feel too bad about downloading it since I did buy a copy in high school over 40 years ago.  It has a lot of very practical info that I was able to use in building my own expansion chamber and cylinder porting experiments.

RE: 2-stroke reference

Heywood and Sher's "The Two-Stroke Cycle Engine: Its Development, Operation and Design".

Thorough and authoritative, just like Heywood's Internal Combustion Engine Fundamentals.
