Pressure numbers (PN) compare to ASME flange rating

Pressure numbers (PN) compare to ASME flange rating

Pressure numbers (PN) compare to ASME flange rating

Hi All,

Does someone know any reference regarding Pressure numbers (PN)for EN flange(En 1092) compare to ASME flange class designations?e.g what is equivalent rating in ASME flange compare to PN63?

Thanks in advance

RE: Pressure numbers (PN) compare to ASME flange rating

The PN number relates to the maximum pressure of a carbon steel flange at ambient temperature as a rough approximation.

The hub OD of the flanges are close to the B31.10 nominal pipe size OD for an equivalent DN value (these can be found in section 1.9.2 of ASME B16.5) but the hub wall thickness and the tolerances are different.

The bolting patterns are also different.

The dimensions follow the old DIN flanges.

In answer to your question on equivalent classes compared to PN63 it really depends on the material, there are maximum allowable pressure tables in EN 1092 and you would have to read those and compare them individually, it would be dangerous to anticipate that the classes have the same relationship for all materials as the factor of safety against yield and tensile properties is different in the standards.

Dear Fawkes,

In En1092, e.g for CS material(P245GH)PN is specified based on Temp-Pressure. Actually I have nozzle based on DIN(PN63 rating)but the nozzle load specification is based on ASME flange rating(150#,300#,...)so i need to find an equivalent for PN63 or PN100

Thanks

Seems to me like your mixing specifications, very dangerous game.

Hi Farzam, hi all,

I think you should better refer to EN 1759 which is specifically adressing "Flanges and their joints - Circular flanges for pipes, valves, fittings and accessories, Class designated".

EN 1092 is only for PN designated flanges, so it is not is the same scope.

With both standards in hands you could compare the pressure/temperature ratings!

yours truly,

tigny
