File New Tab Order

File New Tab Order

File New Tab Order

(OP)
Does anyone know what controls the "File->New" tab order?

I have a tab that we place all of our company template parts on.

I also have a "Production" environment and a "Staged" environment where we can do testing without effecting the rest of the users (this is accomplished using two different custom_dirs.dat files).

In the production environment, our company file new tab is the first one listed  - followed Modeling, Drafting, and Simulation.  In the staged environment, it is the last one listed.  Both *.pax files are exactly the same as far as the <Presentation> tag is concerned.  What else could I be missing?

Thanks,

David

RE: File New Tab Order

I think you are talking about the item order in the file menu, but I'm not 100% sure....

If you are, and if you want to change it, it's easy.

1. right click on the menu bar and choose "Customize".
2. with the customize window active, click the "file" menu at the top. (or any other menu you wish to edit)
3. the window stay stuck open and you can literally drag the icons to any order you like.

RE: File New Tab Order

That's not what he's talking about.  David wants to add tabs to the dialog that comes up when you select File -> New....  The actual order depends on what is contained in the tab you add.  Tabs which contain Modeling Templates come first, then Drafting Templates and finally Simulation and Manufacturing.  You can either add new Tabs or replace existing one, but the order is inferred from the content, at least that's what I've experienced and I've been adding my own tabs since NX 5.0.

Everyone, Thanks for the input.

John is correct in that I wanted to know how NX determines which tabs come first, second...  I guess I should have made it clear in my first post.

I actually did some more digging and found some things out.

The order in which NX places the tabs depends on how you specify them.  For example:

If you place the custom .pax files in the directory pointed to by the environment variable UGII_TEMPLATE_DIR, NX will place them in alpha-numeric order (defined by the pax filename) grouped by modeling, drafting, and simulation...

If you place the pax files in a customization directory, it seems that NX places them by .pax file size (largest first) with all of the custom pax files placed before OOTB pax files (in the directory pointed to by UGII_TEMPLATE_DIR) and grouped by modeling, drafting, and simulation.

There is actually a PR: see PR-06205857 for details.

I just thought I would share my findings with everyone.
