Pinning in a thread

Pinning in a thread

Pinning in a thread

(OP)
In all my years I've never HAD to do this.
I have a part that needs to be loaded with a pack clamp to the asm.  The thing is the 2 holes on the part are threaded.
How do you pin in a threaded hole?  The rule is you don't!

help please

Ed

RE: Pinning in a thread

Use a gage pin corresponding to the female thread's minor diameter?

RE: Pinning in a thread

Ed, Could you please restate the problem?

It is as simple as this. I figured any pin will damage the threads.  So how do you pin in a threaded hole without f'ing the product.

RE: Pinning in a thread

Is your material really that soft? You are correct that brutally forcing a pin into threads cut in aluminum will probably damage them but if the material is steel, I wouldn't concern myself that much with it.
What is the material and what is the thread size? In 20 years of machine shop operations, this has never been a major issue. Sure, you have to use a little care, but nothing more than is typically required of a machinist.

The part is steel and it's a m10. So I guess this will be ok.
thanks for the info
