Punch Test

Punch Test

(OP)
Hi all,
I am new to this forum and Abaqus. I am trying to model small punch test using Abaqus. It has a hemispherical punch piercing through the rectangular specimen held in position by bottom and top die. The problem I am facing is the contact interaction. I am able to run the simulation, the specimen is deforming but the punch is going through the specimen but it doesn't seem to contact the top surface of the specimen. I tried using 'tie constraint' but it is possible only at one or two nodes and at that nodes, the contact is fine. Have a look at the picture, you will be able to have a better idea of my problem. I used Analytical rigid for punch and

From the picture, the point at which the punch meets the specimen(left most) and tied to the far left node, it is fine but at the die end, you can see the punch piercing without even contacting.

Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Vasan
