Protection, Earthing of GE generator

Protection, Earthing of GE generator

Protection, Earthing of GE generator

(OP)
Today I had a disagreement with my construction manager. I am currently working in the contstruction of a combined cycle power plant with natural gas as fuel. We use GE's single shaft power train. 2 days ago we moved the generator to its final location inside the turbine building on a pedestal. I stated today that for safety reasons and equipment protection we need to earth the generator. Technically not earth but do the equipotential bond with the rest of the metallic structure. He diagreed with me about this and said not to connect at all. Since I am working for only 1 year in construction and me previous project was in oil & gas i dont know if he is correct or I am. Can u please give me your opinions on the matter? I would greatly appreciate it

RE: Protection, Earthing of GE generator

What does he say about all the piping that is connected to the generator and grounded?

The thing is today we started all works on generator and the piping is not installed yet but i think that if we start works like this it is essential to ground the generator

RE: Protection, Earthing of GE generator

Of course.  As soon as the first pipe is connected it will be grounded anyway.  But it should be properly bonded with the appropriate sise wire.  My point is what does your contruction manager say when you mention that it will be eventually grounded whether he likes it or not?  Or is he concerned about problems welding on the generator and he wants to ground it later after the welding is done?

Since I am new to the job he doesnt say anything to me. When I push the topic he raises his voice and says to me to let it go. So I cannot understand what he is thinking
