WELDING PROCEDURE

WELDING PROCEDURE

WELDING PROCEDURE

(OP)
I AM LOOKING FOR A WELDING INFORMATION ON WRITTING A PROCEDURE FOR WELDING DUCTILE IRON PIPE WITH SMAW PROCESS.
THE ENGR. SAID, THE PROCEDURE AND WELDER QUALICATION NEEDS TO BE WRITTEN TO AWS D1.1-2 WELDING CODE.

RE: WELDING PROCEDURE

My first inclination would be that D1.1 is inappropriate for the application with the asumption that the ductile iron pipe is used to transport liquid, i.e., water, under pressure.

D1.1 is not appropriate for pressure retaining purposes. Refer to clause 1.2(3).

RE: WELDING PROCEDURE

I believe it should state that the welding procedures and welders shall be qualified to a quality assurance program as outlined in AWS D11.2.

Either way, you have some work to do by understanding how to weld ductile iron. Go to this web site below and review welding of ductile iron.

http://www.ductile.org/didata/Section7/7intro.htm#Hardenability

Second, get a copy of AWS D11.2 and review it.

RE: WELDING PROCEDURE

That makes more sense than D1.1. Good catch metemgr!

AWS D11.2-89 (R2006) GUIDE FOR...

This is availbe through the AWS Bookstore.
