Model orientation

Model orientation

Model orientation

(OP)
I am looking to orient my assembly model (not the view) such that when I click on the "normal" icon, the model is correctly placed with the respect to the x, y, znd z axis.  How would I go about doing this?

RE: Model orientation

Not really sure what you mean by orienting "correctly", but if you mate your parts to the planes in the assy you can have the normal oriented however you like...within reason.

RE: Model orientation

Check the Help file for orientation.

I would create the model so that it is correctly placed with the respect to the x, y, znd z axis.
If you make ball bearings, it may be a little difficult (just kidding).
I always create my models with what we consider the front of the part facing the front view, the rest as if it were on the machine being cut.

RE: Model orientation

Do you mean something like the 'rotate to nearest view' feature that NX and some other software has?

RE: Model orientation

kevc70,

Unfix whatever part(s) in your assembly are fixed.  Select your intended front face, and attach it to the plane "Front".  Select your top face, and attach it to the plane "Top", etc.
