question about ASTM A 570 GRADE 40

question about ASTM A 570 GRADE 40

question about ASTM A 570 GRADE 40

(OP)
DOES SOMEBODY KNOW THE MECHANICAL CARATTERISTIQUE OF ASTM A 570 GRADE 40 LIKE A BRINNEL HARDNESS OR ROCKWELL HARDNESS?

RE: question about ASTM A 570 GRADE 40

Grade 40 has a minimum yield strength of 40 ksi (275 MPa) and minimum ultimate tensile strength of 55 ksi (380 MPa).  This means that the hardness will be ~ 114 HB minimum or ~ 65 HRB.  ISO 18265 is an excellent reference for converting hardness and tensile strength.

RE: question about ASTM A 570 GRADE 40

The hardness will depend on the thermomechanical processing of the material.  The minimum ultimate tensile strength is 380 MPa, so the Brinell hardness at that strength level would be around 115.
