equations in part template

equations in part template

equations in part template

(OP)
I want to use the properties from the configuration dropdown in my bom. Description here is $DESCRIPTION, and part number is $PART NUMBER.
When creating/modifying a BOM, $DESCRIPTION is not available as an option. In the BOM SW uses $PRP@DESCRIPTION from the configuration specific properties. Call me lazy but, i don't want to have 2 descriptions and i don't want to have to remember to go to another page to fill in the info.
I would prefer that SW allow me to use the $DESCRIPTION in the BOM, but, since that is not possible.......can someone tell me if it is possible to create an equation that can be saved in the part template.
I tried - "$DESCRIPTION"="$PRP@DESCRIPTION", which apparently equals -1. Can someone help me out here? without the "" the equation isn't valid. If you query a view in a drawing you get the $DESCRIPTION and $PART NUMBER, so i am not sure why SW chose not to allow it in the BOM.

RE: equations in part template

You might try the macro approach to setting descriptions equal.

RE: equations in part template

tmox,

I'm not entirely understanding your problem. It sounds like you just need to change the format of your config specific properties. Can you include screen shots of the custom properties and configuration specific custom properties tabs in the template part.
