which ASTM standard to buy for aggregate gradation?

which ASTM standard to buy for aggregate gradation?

which ASTM standard to buy for aggregate gradation?

(OP)
Hello.

I am putting together a set of specifications for permeable pavement, and a few of the paver-stone manufacturers have suggested which aggregates to use as subbases.

I have seen the following called out:
"ASTM No.8"
"ASTM No.2"
"ASTM No.57"

Which standard would I purchase from either ASTM or another technical document provider?

I have found ASTM D-1241-07, which appears to be strictly about aggregate for bases/subbases.  I just feel like I would be throwing a dart.

I really would like to purchase the actual standards which would show the actual gradation limits.

I'd prefer not have to purchase an entire volume, which includes test procedures ect.

Any ideas?

Thanks very much

ASTM D448 (AASHTO M43). AASHTO standard specifications might be a better purchase (more and better specifications, lot less money).

cvg - As usual:   You were right exactly on-the-money!

Thanks very much!

I have purchased D-448 from www.techstreet.com for a mere $35.

The best $35 I ever spent.

You can also purchase ASTM Standards individually for about the same price.  In your case, you would need ASTM C33.

both C33 and D448 have the same information and both are ASTM, however C33 is intended for use in concrete.

ASTM D448 - 08 Standard Classification for Sizes of Aggregate for Road and Bridge Construction

ASTM C33 / C33M - 08 Standard Specification for Concrete Aggregates

Yeah, I saw it was $3 cheaper at ASTM, but I allready had an account with techstreet, and I am getting tired of having som much email from so many vendors.  It's worth an extra $3 to not have to sign up for yet one more stupid email bombardment list.

cvg...pervious concrete pavement is generally considered a form of concrete, thus my recommendation for C33.  You're correct that D448 is generally referenced for roadway applications of "loose" aggregate, and in fact, the pervious pavement organization references D448 as an option behind C33.

Craig...If you are writing a specification for a pervious pavement wearing surface, you might want to consider using C33 as concrete producers are familiar with it.  If you are writing a specification for only the underlying material as a graded aggregate, the D448 would be appropriate.
