pressure sewer system modeling

pressure sewer system modeling

pressure sewer system modeling

(OP)
I have a good working EPANET model of a large pressure system that has, say, 1000 2 HP grinder pump stations, 100 5 HP grinder pump stations, and 10 10+ HP pump stations. Obviously, all of these pumps are not running at once. If they were, the model correctly indicates that many would not be able to overcome the line pressure.

What ratio of pumps should I cut on to prove to myself that the system works? I have been unable to find any regulatory information. I know from inspection that the addition of one more 2 HP ginder pump has no ill effects but I need to demonstrate this for the State.

RE: pressure sewer system modeling

My suggestion is to perform a sensitivity analysis of the model.  Determine the amount that you could turn on and the system still work.  Obviously if only a few could be on and the system work, then this would be a harder sell to the State and yourself? that the system works.

Also, you might consider asking the State what information they are looking for.  I worked for a state regulatory agency years ago and they liked/expected questions.

RE: pressure sewer system modeling

How'd they feel about answers?

RE: pressure sewer system modeling

BigInch - You understand what I am saying about the sensitivity analysis.  Maybe I didn't phrase the other part as eloquently.  Obviously, the system needs to work and the engineer needs to be 100% confident that it will work.

RE: pressure sewer system modeling

I was having a bit of a go.
