instrumentation software

instrumentation software

(OP)
hi,

we are a small company of engineering involved in hydrocarbons domaine, and we want to buy a software for instrumentation, other than inttols, is there any powerful software that help instrumentation engineers? thanks

RE: instrumentation software

Certainly National Instruments (www.ni.com).  Nice stuff but expensive.

RE: instrumentation software

I'm pretty sure the OP meant software for the design of instrumentation systems, not software for use in instrumentation systems. Everyone I know uses InTools for this, or suffers through the use of several software packages that aren't integrated with each other.

RE: instrumentation software

As the poster said Intools is out.
In my opinion Smart Plant Instrumentation leaves a lot to be desired in that it doesn't work with Smart Plant P&ID
We use Autocad for drawings
Microsoft Excel for misc. spreadsheets
Microsoft Access for the Instrument database
Our access database which we developed in house produces very professional looking datasheets, Index, Alarm & Trip setpoints, I/O List and any other sort of report.

RE: instrumentation software

I don't know enough about the scope of Intools to really make any cogent comments.  However, National Instruments' Labview is intended to run and control instrumentation, albeit for a "lab" whose size and scope is somewhat nebulous.

Nonetheless, Labview does have a tremendous amount of power in terms of data collection/management.

RE: instrumentation software

Again, the software function the OP wanted was for instrumentation system design, not integration (which is what LabVIEW does).

I've used AutoCAD Electrical, and it's okay for some things - it seems especially good for machine control with ladder diagrams, and I do like some of the integrated database functions, e.g., for producing BOMs. AutoDesk also sells AutoCAD P&ID, but I haven't tried it yet, and I don't know if they integrate with each other well.

I typically use the same programs roydm does, and for the same functions. By the way, it's my understanding that SmartPlant Instrumentation is what InTools is now called.
