Short circuit calculation for residential electrical service

Short circuit calculation for residential electrical service

(OP)
Where can I learn how to do a short circuit calculation? I need to select the short circuit protection rating for entrance equipment for a single family home 230V/1PH/200 amp service. How do i figure this out?

website Links/tutorials would be great. Thank you.

RE: Short circuit calculation for residential electrical service

10kA.  Utilities go to great length to make that value true.

Look at FAQ238-1287: What are good references for a Power Engineer? for lots of good resources.  The Red Book, the Buff Book, and the Conrad St. Pierre book might be the best first places to start.

RE: Short circuit calculation for residential electrical service

If possible, the small branches MCBs should have short-circuit rated at 5kA to get a good coordination. Then some main lines rates at 10kA as Steve's.
