Codes governing use of wooden plug repair

Codes governing use of wooden plug repair

Codes governing use of wooden plug repair

(OP)
At a local refinery, it has become common to plug a leaking firewater line with a shaped wooden dowel. This then stems the flow of water to a sufficient degree to allow a patch or welded fitting to be welded, thereby making the repair permanent. The pressure in the system rarely exceeds 260psi and leaking is mostly due to pitting corrosion.

Are there any codes, standards or recommended practices that condone/govern such wooden plug repairs?

RE: Codes governing use of wooden plug repair

I don't know about codes, but when I was with a water supply authority, we went through a pile of broom handles every month!
